General Information and Frequently Asked Questions

Before you begin, you need:​

  • The inspection number found on your citation.
  • The optional report number found on your citation.
  • The citation det​​ails and penalty amount.
  • A valid payment method (credit card, debit card, or bank account for eCheck).

Payment process

Your payment information is encrypted and secure.  We do not store credit card or banking information after your transaction is complete. 

  • Ensure your citation is final and ready for payment (see Frequently Asked Questions below).
  • Access the​ Penalty Payment System.
  • Enter your inspection number.
  • Verify company information and penalty amount. 
  • Select payment method and complete transaction.
  • Save your confirmation receipt.

Payment eligibility and process

What can I use this system to pay?

  • You can pay Division of Occupational Safety and Health Compliance citation penalties that are final.​

How do I know if my citations are final and eligible to pay online?

  • Citations and penalties that are not contested are final on the sixteenth (16th) working day after you receive the citation. Working days are Monday through Friday, excluding federal and state holidays.

Will I receive a receipt or confirmation after payment?

  • Yes, you will receive an electronic confirmation receipt immediately after successful payment.  Our staff will also be automatically notified of your payment and will update your casefile.​

What if my citation amount has changed due to penalties or interest?

  • Contact our office immediately at (502) 564-3535if the amount shown online differs from what you expect.  Do not proceed with payment until the discrepancy is resolved.

Payment methods and fees

What credit card providers are accepted?

  • Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express and debit cards with a Visa or Mastercard logo.

Can I make a payment from my online banking account?

  • Yes, through our eCheck / ACH option using your bank routing and account numbers.

Can I use third-party payment services like PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay?

  • No.  For security and processing reasons, we only accept direct credit card, debit card, and eCheck payments.

What are the fees for online payments?

  • ​Credit / debit card payments: 2.95% processing fee
  • eCheck / ACH payments: $1.00 flat fee

Can I pay partial amounts?

  • ​Yes, you can make partial payments.  You may make multiple payments until the full penalty is satisfied.


Payment management

I accidentally underpaid; can I make another payment on the same inspection?

  • Yes, you can make additional payments on the same inspection until the full amount is paid.

I have multiple inspections that need payment. Can I make one combined payment?

  • No, payment for each inspection must be made separately due to our tracking and accounting system requirements.

I am on a payment plan.  How do I make recurring online payments?

  • ​Access the online payment system each time a payment is due according to your payment plan schedule.  The system does not store payment information or process automatic recurring payments.

How quickly will the payment post to my credit card or banking account?

  • ​This depends on your bank or credit card provider.  Most transactions appear within one (1) to three (3) business days, but some may take up to five (5) business days.

Is there a way to cancel my payment if I made a mistake?

  • Yes, but timing is critical.
  • Before payment clears: Contact us immediately at (502) 564-3535 (8:00 am - 4:30 pm EST, Monday-Friday excluding state and federal holidays).  We may be able to cancel the transaction if your payment has not been processed by your financial institution.
  • After payment clears: We will process your request as a refund, which may take ten (10) business days or longer to appear in your account.

How do I check the status of my online payment?

  • First, check with your financial institution or credit card provider to confirm the payment cleared your account.  Then wait at least one (1) business day before contacting us at (502) 564-3535 for a payment status update.


Technical support and troubleshooting

System requirements:

  • Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge (latest versions recommended).
  • JavaScript must be enabled.
  • Pop-up blockers may need to be disabled.

Common issues

I clicked the payment button and nothing happened.
Try these steps in this order:

  • Access the Penalty Payment System​.
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies.
  • Disable pop-up blockers.
  • Try a different browser.
  • Contact us at (502) 564-3535 if issues persist.

I entered my inspection number, but the system doesn't recognize it.
Possible causes:

  • ​Double-check that you've entered the inspection number correctly.
  • Your citation may not yet be final (see FAQs).
  • Wait a few days and try again.
  • Contact us at (502) 564-3535 if the problem continues.

My payment was declined even though my card information is correct.

  • ​Contact your financial institution or credit card provider.
    ​Common reasons include:
    • Insufficient funds or credit limit reached.
    • Card security features blocking the transaction.
    • Expired card or incorrect security code.
    • Bank fraud protection temporarily blocking online payments.


I entered my bank account information for eCheck, but the payment was unsuccessful.
Contact your financial institution to verify:

  • ​Account and routing numbers are correct.
  • Account has sufficient funds.
  • Account is authorized for ACH / electronic transactions.
  • The system shows the wrong company name for my inspection number.
  • Do not proceed with payment.  Contact us immediately at (502) 564-3535.

The system shows my inspection but displays the wrong penalty amount.

  • Do not proceed with payment.  Contact us immediately at (502) 564-3535 

I was charged twice for the same payment.

  • Contact us immediately at (502) 564-3535.  We will investigate and process a refund if necessary.

The "Next" button doesn't advance to the next screen.

Glossary

Final Order: A citation that is ready for payment because it was not contested within the required timeframe.
Inspection Number: The unique identifier assigned to each workplace inspection, found on your citation documents.
Working Days: Monday through Friday, excluding federal and state holidays.
eCheck / ACH: Electronic payment method using your bank account routing and account numbers.
